The wooden floors of 50 (shellac?) Need to clean, how? Took the wall to wall, floor needs cleaning.

I took the carpet and pad in bedrooms, the floor is in bad shape, but needs cleaning. The oak floor dates from the 50. I do not know if it has been renewed finished or not. Carpet has been down for at least 20 years. Going to use Murphy's Oil Soap, but Internet experts say NO, which leaves no residue that will cause problems if you want to finish later. I do not want to have to polish the floor, I want it clean so you can start using it now. I do not want a lot of work, but I am willing to my knees and hands with a damp cloth. I do not want to use harsh chemicals. Many of the cleaning products on the market now that are specified polyurethane finished hardwood floors …. I do not think this is. I would use Orange Glo, but is polyethylene. HELP is greatly appreciated. I want to get this room back into use. Thanks.

Go to Lowes a representative will guide you in the right direction … I did …. I can only remember the names of things but clean and reset … and specifically for older wood floors .. good luck
